The Anambra State Government has intensified efforts to address the environmental challenges posed by erosion in the state, with the Deputy Speaker leading the charge.
The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Chukwuma Okoye, has called for a rapid response to combat the increasing rate of erosion in the state.
Okoye made the call during a visit to a gully erosion site in Ezimezi, Amawbia, where he led a government delegation to assess the damage and initiate remedial measures.
The Deputy Speaker emphasized the need for residents to be mindful of their environmental actions, warning that neglect could lead to devastating consequences. He urged residents to join forces in combating the growing threat of erosion in the state.
According to Okoye, the aim of the visit was to conduct a thorough assessment of the damage wrought by the environmental menace and initiate necessary remedial measures to restore the area to its former glory.
Prof. Philip Phil-Eze, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Erosion Watershed and Climate Change (ANSEWCCA), assured that the agency will conduct a comprehensive survey of the affected area within the week, paving the way for immediate commencement of work at the site.
The state government’s efforts to address environmental degradation and ensure the well-being of citizens were commended by the Deputy Speaker.
