The Anambra North Traditional Rulers Council has strongly condemned the lingering land dispute between Umuoba Abegbu Anam community in Anambra West LGA and Eziagulu-otu Aguleri community in Anambra East Local Government Area. In a communique issued after their bi-monthly meeting, the council expressed deep concern over the conflict, which has resulted in loss of lives and property.
The monarchs, led by Chairman Igwe Joseph Ajodo, emphasized that resorting to violence is not part of their culture and tradition. They commiserated with the families of the victims and solicited the public’s understanding and cooperation in their intervention efforts, which are being carried out in collaboration with the state government.
Notably, the council expressed satisfaction with the positive response from the affected communities, who have laid down their arms in pursuit of peace. Building on this momentum, the monarchs urged the government to initiate the process of demarcating the disputed lands, which is seen as a crucial step towards resolving the conflict.
The council’s call for government intervention highlights the need for a concerted effort to address the land dispute and promote lasting peace in the region.
