The Anambra State Government has commemorated the 2025 World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Day, with the theme “Unite to Act towards Elimination of NTDs.”
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, addressing the media in Awka, said the day is aimed at raising awareness about NTDs, which concern a group of 21 preventable and treatable diseases that significantly impact the world’s poorest populations.
Dr. Obidike noted that the state has successfully interrupted the transmission of river blindness through mass drug administration and vector control programmes.
He stated that the state is committed to controlling and eliminating NTDs to free its over six million population at risk of soil transmission helminths.
The State Director of Public Health, Dr. Afam Aneme, said the day is meant to create awareness about NTDs and educate residents on how to stay safe and report cases for treatment.
The commemoration event climaxed with a road walk.
