Anaocha Local Government Area (LGA) has intensified preparations for the upcoming Second Round Immunization Catch-Up Exercise, aimed at boosting public health in the area.
As part of the preparations, the LGA organized a stakeholders’ meeting to sensitize communities on the importance of the exercise and ensure their cooperation. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including health officials, community leaders, and representatives from the Ward Development Committee.
Speaking at the meeting, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Anigbogu, Director of Primary Healthcare Services in Anaocha, emphasized the significance of the second round of immunization. She explained that the exercise is designed to cover areas missed during the previous exercise and urged stakeholders to intensify their campaigns to ensure the LGA does not lag behind.
Mrs. Anigbogu also stressed the importance of educating the public on potential Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI), such as slight fever or vaccination site reactions, and how to handle these minor situations.
In line with Nigeria’s zero-tolerance policy for Polio Melitis, Mrs. Anigbogu called on stakeholders to be vigilant for cases of children with fever or leg pain before or after injection, which may indicate Polio.
Other key speakers at the meeting included Mrs. Jane Okpala, Anaocha LGA Health Social Mobilization Officer, and Mr. Emeka Aneto, Chairman of the Anaocha Ward Development Committee. They emphasized the importance of accurate reporting, community partnership, and proper documentation to achieve accurate interpretation.
The Second Round Immunization Catch-Up Exercise is scheduled to take place soon, and stakeholders are optimistic that the exercise will be successful in boosting public health in Anaocha LGA.
