The maiden Awka South Women Entrepreneurship Conference was successfully held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia, with the aim of empowering women entrepreneurs in the region. The conference, organized by the Centre for Innovation and Creativity, Amawbia, and supported by the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honorable Chukwumma Okoye, brought together women from various communities to equip them with relevant knowledge on entrepreneurship.
According to Dr. Okey Cyril-Nwuche, Proprietor of the Centre for Innovation and Creativity, empowering women has a ripple effect on society, starting from the family. He emphasized the importance of providing entrepreneurship knowledge to women, rather than just giving them items that may not be utilized effectively.
The conference featured lectures on various topics on entrepreneurship, led by Lady Devine Njideka, and certificate presentations to guests and participants. Dignitaries in attendance included Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, Barrister Lawrence Chukwumma, and Mrs. Joy Okonkwo.
Right Honorable Okoye noted that women are the backbone of the economy, despite facing numerous challenges in society. He expressed his support for the program, citing its alignment with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda to empower young people economically and promote self-reliance.
The conference is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, as women entrepreneurs are empowered to enhance their skills, grow their businesses, and contribute to the development of their communities.
