Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Mefor, met with the new executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council. The NUJ team, led by re-elected chairman Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, paid a courtesy visit to Mefor’s office in Awka.
Mefor congratulated the union leaders on their election, stating that the Soludo government is committed to democracy and recognizes the media as the bastion of democracy. He commended Anambra journalists for their fair and improved reporting on the Soludo government’s achievements, urging them to continue providing accurate and unbiased information.
The commissioner also discussed the new security initiative, Operation Udo Ga-Achị, aimed at ridding the state of criminals. He informed the NUJ members that Agunechemba is the new name for the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), which has achieved significant successes in its first month of operation.
Mefor emphasized the importance of cooperation between the media, the government, and the public in reclaiming the state from criminals. He encouraged everyone to provide necessary information to the authorities, using the hotline 5111 to report any suspicious activities.
In response, NUJ Chairman Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu assured Mefor that the union would continue to support the commissioner and the ministry in achieving their goals and those of the Soludo administration.
