Business activities at the Ogbo-Ogwu Market in Onitsha have ground to a halt following a massive crackdown by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on counterfeit and substandard drugs.

NAFDAC officials, accompanied by journalists, conducted a thorough search of shops and warehouses within the market for fake and substandard pharmaceutical products.

According to NAFDAC Assistant Directors, Emeka Orajiaka and Uchenna Ezigwe, the nationwide raid aims to eliminate fake and expired pharmaceutical products from the open market. They emphasized that the exercise is not targeted at any particular market or group.

However, the raid has left traders stranded, as they have been unable to access their shops since the operation began.
