Residents of Onitsha metropolis have commended the ongoing distillation of drainage channels along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. The project, aimed at preventing blockage of the water channel and possible erosion, has been widely praised by the community.
According to the Manager of MACkTWO Resources, the firm handling the distillation project, Chief Ekene Onyebuchi, the work commenced last month from the Building Materials Market through New Motor Spare Parts Market and down to Upper Iweka axis of the area. Chief Onyebuchi emphasized the need to create clean drainage channels to enable the free flow of flood, especially during the rainy season.
The Contract Supervisor, Mr. Chinwuba Ezeama, represented Chief Onyebuchi at the project site. He called on the government to establish authorities to monitor and prevent individuals from dumping refuse into the drainage channels.
A staff member of the firm, Mr. Chukwuebuka Offor, revealed that over 50 men were working on the project, with over thirty tippers provided for the evacuation of waste. He urged citizens to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, in line with Governor Soludo’s administration mantra of making the state livable.
Bus drivers, Okada riders, and residents, including Chibueze Nwafor, Charley Otuede, Onyemechi Onoh, and Loveth Okeh, praised the state government’s efforts towards giving the state a face-lift and transforming it into a smart mega city. They also called on bus drivers to provide waste buckets for their passengers to avoid throwing waste from their buses.
