Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has urged community leaders to promote peaceful resolution of disputes, warning that the government will not tolerate any actions that threaten public peace.
The Governor’s warning was conveyed through his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, during a meeting with stakeholders from Eziaguluotu-Aguleri and Umuoba Anam in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The meeting was convened to address boundary disputes between the two communities. Governor Soludo emphasized that community leaders have a critical role to play in promoting peace and harmony in their towns.
The Traditional Rulers of Umuoba Anam and Eziaguluotu Aguleri, Igwe George Obalum-Ekwealor and Igwe Lawrence Nwofia, respectively, claimed ownership of the disputed land and appealed to the state government to help determine the rightful owner.
Other stakeholders, including the Mayor of Anambra East, Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, and a former Member of the State House of Assembly, Honourable Obinna Emenaka, thanked the government for intervening in the dispute and promised to contribute to the restoration of peace in the area.
