The Anambra State Government has prohibited students from using mobile phones in secondary schools, citing distractions and the need to enhance academic performance. Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, issued the directive during the Anambra Schools’ Cultural Day celebration in Awka, the state capital.
According to Ikediugwu, principals and teachers are authorized to seize phones from students who bring them to school. This move aims to maintain discipline and focus in learning environments. The state government, under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, is investing in education to promote academic excellence and instill discipline among students.
Ikediugwu emphasized the importance of preserving Igbo culture through education, encouraging students to learn about the values and norms of Ndigbo to preserve the rich heritage of the Igbo people.
The ban on mobile phones is expected to improve academic performance and reduce distractions in schools. Parents and guardians have been advised to support the initiative by ensuring their children do not bring phones to school.
