In a strategic move to enhance public safety and secure nightlife hotspots in Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, has partnered with the Anambra State Ministry of Tourism to engage members of the Anambra State Restaurant and Bar Owners Association on improved security measures.

The meeting, held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the State Police Command Headquarters in Awka, focused on safeguarding businesses, employees, and patrons—especially along Club Road, a major entertainment hub in the state capital, as well as other key tourist destinations.

Addressing the gathering, CP Orutugu revealed that recent intelligence reports indicated that certain bars and lounges were being exploited by criminal elements as meeting points. He urged business operators to maintain high levels of vigilance and to work closely with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious behavior. He also assured stakeholders of increased police presence, routine patrols, and enhanced surveillance efforts to deter criminal activity and swiftly respond to threats.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Don Onyeji, applauded the initiative and affirmed his ministry’s full support. He emphasized the economic and cultural significance of maintaining security across Anambra’s numerous tourist attractions, including Agulu Lake, Ogbunike Cave, and the Igbo Ukwu Museum.

The leadership of the Restaurant and Bar Owners Association welcomed the initiative, expressing readiness to implement the Command’s recommendations without delay.

Also in attendance were the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ibrahim Ezekiel; Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of State Intelligence Department, ACP Tochukwu Umeh; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security (Anti-Cultism), Hon. Kingsley Ezika; and other senior officers and association members.

The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to fostering continuous engagement with stakeholders to ensure a safer, more secure environment for businesses and residents alike.
