The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu (fwc, MNIPS, Ph.D), has intervened in a lingering land dispute involving members of Ogu Clan, Ubarusioye Village, Nando, in Anambra East Local Government Area.
On April 26, 2025, CP Orutugu convened a meeting with the disputing parties at the State Police Command Headquarters, Awka, to mediate the crisis and prevent further escalation. During the meeting, he emphasized the need for community-led solutions, urging stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and collaborative problem-solving to resolve land-related conflicts.
As part of the peace process, the warring parties signed an undertaking pledging not to engage in any further breach of the peace pending the outcome of broader stakeholder discussions.
Present at the peace meeting were Mr. Alexander Nwabueze, Chairman of Umunnamoke Kindred; Dr. Chijioke Ifejika, Chairman of Adagbe-Ogu Kindred; Mr. Ebenezer Chibuzor, representing the Chairman of Ukwuorji Kindred; the Divisional Police Officer, Otuocha Division; and other representatives of the village community.
The intervention aligns with the Command’s growing emphasis on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), a key component of the new operational strategy, Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping, aimed at enhancing security and stability across Anambra State.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to proactive policing methods and fostering peaceful resolutions to conflicts in partnership with community stakeholders.
