Gov. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has expressed profound sorrow over the death of His Holiness, Pope Francis, who passed away peacefully on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.
In an official condolence message released by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the Governor extended heartfelt sympathies to the Catholic faithful in Anambra State, across Nigeria, the Vatican, and the global Christian community.
Governor Soludo described Pope Francis as a revered global symbol of faith, humility, and compassion, noting that his commitment to championing the rights of the poor, promoting interfaith harmony, and advocating for peace and justice made the world a better place.
“Pope Francis was a shepherd whose legacy transcended borders,” the Governor said. “His teachings on love, mercy, and solidarity resonated with the people of Anambra and inspired our pursuit of a society anchored in dignity and hope.”
Soludo also reflected on the symbolic timing of the Pope’s passing, noting that Easter Monday – a day marking the triumph of Christ over death – underscores the enduring message of resurrection and hope.
The Governor reaffirmed his solidarity with Catholics worldwide during this time of mourning and celebrated the life of Pope Francis as one dedicated wholly to service, faith, and humanity.
He concluded by offering prayers for the repose of the late Pontiff’s soul, entrusting it to the comforting grace of Almighty God.
