The Anambra State Joint Security Team on Monday intensified patrol operations in Nnewi and Ihiala, two areas previously affected by security concerns.
The Joint Security Team comprises personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army (302 Artillery Regiment), Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Anambra State Vigilante Group.
On April 7, 2025, the team launched a coordinated patrol featuring security and operational armoured vehicles across strategic locations. The move was designed not only to deter criminal activities but also to reassure residents and business owners of their safety, encouraging them to go about their legitimate activities, especially on Mondays.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, MNIPS, PhD, commended the residents of Awka and Onitsha for their resilience and renewed participation in economic activities. He particularly praised transport unions, including bus drivers’ associations, and market leaders for standing firm against acts capable of disrupting peace and for their role in supporting a safer business environment.
“Awka and Onitsha are setting an example for the rest of the state,” CP Orutugu said. “Their courage and collaboration with security agencies are crucial in restoring normalcy and economic vibrancy in Anambra.”
He reaffirmed that the Police-led Joint Security Force remains committed to maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and creating a secure environment conducive for business and development across the state.
