The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Awka Branch, has rounded off its 2025 Bar Week with a thanksgiving mass held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, marking the end of a week-long series of impactful activities for members of the legal community.
Speaking after the event, the Chairman of the branch, Barr. Bona Orakwe, expressed satisfaction with the successful execution of the Bar Week activities, noting that the programs had significantly enriched members’ understanding of legal practice while also fostering social engagement. He urged members to leverage the insights gained during the week to enhance their professional competence.
Orakwe also took the opportunity to commend Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his administration’s developmental strides. He praised Soludo for implementing policies that have positively addressed the socio-economic needs of the people of Anambra State.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Bar Week Planning Committee, Barr. Philip Chukwudebelu, described the 2025 edition as a resounding success. According to him, the week was packed with activities designed to meet the practical and developmental needs of lawyers at the bar.
Another member of the association, Barr. Cyril Eziamaka, lauded the efforts of the Orakwe-led executive for sustaining the vibrant activities of the branch. However, he raised concerns over the current inactivity of the Court of Appeal in Awka due to logistical challenges.
Eziamaka appealed to Governor Soludo’s administration to urgently intervene and provide the necessary support to restore full operations at the appellate court, warning that the absence of Appeal Court sittings could lead to a denial of justice for many litigants awaiting judgment.
The week-long events underscored the NBA Awka Branch’s commitment to professional development and advocacy for improvements within the state’s judicial system.
