The Mayor of Oyi Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Emma Nweke, has issued a passionate call to the youth of the community to resist negative influences and make purposeful decisions that will secure their futures and uplift the society.
Speaking to journalists following a routine patrol against the Monday sit-at-home directive, Dr. Nweke emphasized the need for young people to remain focused and embrace constructive paths in life. He noted that adolescence and early adulthood are pivotal periods where choices made can have lasting impacts.
“In line with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s vision, we are committed to nurturing a generation of responsible and empowered individuals,” Dr. Nweke said. “The youth must understand that their future depends on the choices they make today.”
The Oyi Council boss warned against the dangers of substance abuse, gang involvement, and other self-destructive behaviors, stressing that such paths only lead to lost potential and shattered dreams. “You hold the keys to your future. Stay focused, seek knowledge, and engage in productive activities,” he urged.
Dr. Nweke also called for a united front among parents, educators, and community leaders to help guide young people away from harmful influences. He pledged his administration’s continued investment in youth-focused programs, including education, vocational training, and personal development.
Highlighting the importance of positive mentorship, the Mayor encouraged the youth to align themselves with role models who inspire and challenge them. “Surround yourselves with people who push you toward greatness,” he advised.
He concluded by reminding the young people of Oyi that their decisions not only shape their personal destinies but also the future of the entire community. “Reject negativity and embrace the endless possibilities before you. You are the leaders of tomorrow,” Dr. Nweke said, leaving a message of hope and empowerment.
