The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), pledging to provide the necessary assistance to enable the Corps effectively discharge its statutory mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, made this pledge on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, when he received the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, and other senior officers at the Governor’s Lodge, Light House, Awka.Governor Soludo acknowledged the pivotal role of the NSCDC in the state, especially through its Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) and clearance operations, noting that these efforts have been instrumental in reclaiming and restoring peace and security to communities previously occupied by secessionist groups.“It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Lighthouse. We are in the midst of preparations for the upcoming gubernatorial election, which is just about four weeks away, and I know the Civil Defence, as one of the critical stakeholders in the election, will deliver the best when the time comes.“I would also like to express our appreciation to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for the commendable work they are doing, particularly in these challenging times and complex security architecture we find ourselves in as a country,” he said.Governor Soludo commended the Commandant General’s leadership and the Corps’ achievements since its establishment, while advocating for more funding for the NSCDC.“I am a strong advocate for adequate funding of security agencies. When this is not done, it is crucial to identify those responsible.
That is why I have been pushing for the Federal Government to alleviate the burden of state governments funding federal security agencies, enabling them to effectively deliver on the security expectations of Nigerians,” he stated. He also emphasised the importance of continuous training and retraining of NSCDC operatives to strengthen their operational capacity and effectively address emerging security challenges, particularly those related to the protection of critical national assets.Earlier, the Commandant General, Prof Ahmed Abubakar Audi, commended the state government for its proactive measures in maintaining a secure environment in Anambra. He also requested logistics support from the state government to enhance the Corps’ operational readiness.“I would like to express my gratitude to His Excellency for the warm reception. My visit has three purposes — to pay homage to the Governor, appreciate his support to the Corps, and invite him to my Strategic Security Lecture scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Auditorium, Awka, focusing on the role of Artificial Intelligence in protecting Critical National Assets,” Prof Audi said.He reiterated that the NSCDC remains a grassroots security agency committed to protecting the nation’s critical assets and infrastructure from vandalism and delivering quality service to Nigerians, particularly the people of Anambra.
