As preparations heighten for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered intensified security operations to curb political thuggery and violence across the state.The Police Commissioner directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to step up intelligence-led patrols and coordinated raids on identified flashpoints within their jurisdictions. He said the move aims to prevent any form of political violence, cult clashes, or illegal possession of firearms before and during the election.According to Orutugu, credible intelligence reports have indicated that some groups acting on behalf of political interests are allegedly mobilising youths for violent activities. He warned that the Command will not tolerate any attempt to intimidate voters, disrupt public peace, or undermine the electoral process.The Commissioner reaffirmed the neutrality of the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that the duty of the Police is to protect lives and property, safeguard the electoral process, and enforce the law without bias or political interference.He urged political actors to caution their supporters against violence and assured residents that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and secure election across Anambra State.SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Awka on 28th October 2025.
