The President of Obosi Girls’/Union Secondary School Obosi (OGUSSA) Alumni, Dr. Ndidi Ofole, has commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for transforming the once rural-based Union Secondary School, Obosi, into a modern smart school. The school, founded in 1977 and formerly known as Girls’ Secondary School Obosi before becoming co-educational, has been upgraded with smart learning facilities under the Soludo administration.Speaking during an interview with the Ministry of Information, Dr. Ofole, an Associate Professor of Counselling and Human Development at the University of Ibadan, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for providing smart boards, tablets, laptops, STEM laboratories, ICT facilities, tables, and chairs for both students and staff. She also praised the state government for infrastructural upgrades such as the installation of a borehole, re-roofing of damaged classrooms, and tiling of floors, which have greatly improved the school’s learning environment.Dr. Ofole further noted that OGUSSA members contributed to the school’s development by renovating the psychology and counselling office and rebuilding the collapsed section of the school’s perimeter fence.
She acknowledged contributors including Senator Uche Ekwunife, Theresa Nwankwo, Engr. Kene Nwankwo, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chief Nathan Uyamadu, and others for their support. She revealed that the transformation has attracted new students from surrounding schools, resulting in overcrowded classrooms and overstretched facilities. Dr. Ofole appealed to the state government and affluent individuals in Obosi to construct additional classroom blocks and deploy more teachers to accommodate the growing student population.Lamenting the poor state of access roads to the school and the inadequate security presence, she called for urgent intervention. “The roads leading to the school should be repaired, and more security personnel deployed. Installing solar-powered CCTV cameras will also help protect the school’s facilities from vandalism,” she stated.
