Onitsha North Local Government Area of Anambra State has commissioned 100 environmental agents to enhance cleanliness and promote environmental sustainability in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s “Clean and Green” agenda.The commissioning was performed on behalf of the governor by the Managing Director of the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), Mr. Mike Ozoemena, who commended the LGA Chairman, Hon. Anthony Nweze Nworah, for combining job creation with improved sanitation.
Hon. Nworah described the initiative as the first phase of a broader programme, disclosing that another 100 agents would be engaged by February 2026. He urged the newly commissioned workers to take their responsibilities seriously in ensuring a cleaner environment.Governor Soludo’s Special Assistant on Environment, Mr. Obi Okoye, advised the agents to be safety-conscious and professional, while the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Mrs. Ijeoma Ejeagwu, encouraged them to serve diligently and sustain their commitment.Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the opportunity, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in them. The development is expected to strengthen environmental management and create jobs for residents of Onitsha North.
