The Anambra State Police Command has received the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, at the State Police Headquarters, Amawbia, ahead of the November 8th governorship election.Represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, Force Headquarters Abuja, Benjamin Okolo, the IGP conveyed a message of peace to the people of Anambra State, urging them to ensure a hitch-free and credible election.He commended the Anambra State Police Command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu for its commitment to maintaining law and order, noting that the Command had demonstrated professionalism in policing the state. He encouraged officers not to relent in their efforts to sustain peace and security during and after the polls.In his welcome address, CP Orutugu assured that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee a smooth, fair, and credible election. He appealed to voters to comply with all electoral guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the process.The Commissioner also expressed optimism that political parties who signed the Anambra Election Peace Accord at the International Convention Centre, Awka, would honour the agreement and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship for a credible election.Speaking during the event, the Anambra State Commissioner for Industry, Mr Christian Udechukwu, urged voters to come out en masse on Saturday to cast their votes for excellence and continuity in governance.Similarly, an Anambra indigene resident in Abuja, Mr Chris Nweke, appealed to the electorate to maintain decorum and ensure the election is conducted peacefully and fairly.
