Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central District, has commended the peaceful conduct of the governorship election in Anambra State and called on all stakeholders to respect the will of the electorate.The senator made the remarks shortly after casting his vote alongside his wife at Polling Unit 19, Aguluzigbo Town Hall, Anaocha Local Government Area.Umeh described voting as a civic responsibility and encouraged citizens to actively participate in the democratic process by freely choosing candidates of their choice. He expressed satisfaction with the calm and orderly atmosphere at his polling unit, noting that the exercise had been smooth and devoid of tension.Reflecting on his long involvement in Anambra’s political history, Umeh recalled serving as a state collation agent in five previous governorship elections, from Peter Obi’s victory in 2003 to Charles Soludo’s win in 2021. He explained that he decided to remain neutral this time to allow voters make independent choices.The senator also expressed satisfaction with the level of security across the state, noting that reports from various polling units indicated a peaceful exercise. He cautioned, however, against electoral malpractice during collation and result announcement, warning that manipulations often occur late into the night.Umeh emphasised that democracy can only thrive when citizens’ votes truly count and urged that the outcome of the election should reflect the genuine choice of the people.He expressed optimism that the final results would meet public expectations and demonstrate the credibility of the electoral process in Anambra State.
