The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed a total of 2,802,790 eligible voters for the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.The INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Monday during the signing of the Peace Accord organised by the National Peace Committee (NPC) in Awka, the state capital.Prof. Amupitan revealed that the commission had finalised deployment plans for 24,000 personnel and election materials across 5,718 polling units, 326 ward collation centres, and 21 local government collation centres in the state.He reaffirmed INEC’s determination to combat vote-buying and electoral malpractice, warning that anyone caught attempting to undermine the electoral process would face the full weight of the law.> “The Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) has instituted robust security measures for this election. The Nigeria Police Force will deploy 45,000 personnel, while the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will deploy 10,250 officers, alongside other security agencies,” the INEC Chairman stated.He assured voters of improved Election Day logistics and enhanced result management processes, noting that INEC was fully prepared to deliver a transparent, credible, and peaceful election.Prof. Amupitan urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to uphold the principles of the peace accord, stressing that peace remained the foundation for credible elections.> “It is not the signatures on this document that guarantee peace, but the genuine commitment to honouring its provisions. Without peace, logistics will be disrupted, our personnel and materials will be at risk, and the credibility of the process will be undermined,” he warned.The INEC boss described the signing of the Peace Accord as a collective reaffirmation of stakeholders’ commitment to non-violence and mutual respect throughout the electoral process.He emphasised that the 2025 Anambra governorship election should be remembered for its unity and credibility, not discord, urging all political actors to conduct themselves responsibly.Amupitan also commended the National Peace Committee for its sustained efforts in promoting peaceful elections across Nigeria, noting that the collaboration of security agencies, civil society, the media, and traditional leaders would help guarantee a credible poll.> “By God’s grace, the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election will be peaceful and successful,” he concluded.
