The Education and Social Development Department of Awka South Local Government Area has held its 2025 end-of-year get-together, bringing together serving and retired staff to celebrate a year of service, unity, and commitment to public welfare.The event, which took place at the Traditional Rulers’ Conference Hall at the Awka South Local Government headquarters, provided an opportunity for reflection, thanksgiving, and recognition of achievements recorded by the department within the year.In her opening remarks, the Head of Department, Mrs. Lilian Akwuba, commended staff members for their dedication, discipline, and positive attitude to work, noting that their commitment had contributed significantly to effective service delivery in the local government area.She described the annual gathering as a platform to appreciate staff efforts and encourage renewed dedication, adding that hard work and selfless service would always attract greater responsibilities and recognition.Representing the Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, the Deputy Mayor, Paul Ifeme, praised the department for its role in information dissemination and social welfare interventions within communities in the council area.He noted that the department has helped restore hope to vulnerable families and contributed to resolving social challenges, stressing that its work aligns with the administration’s vision of peace, inclusion, and grassroots development.The event also featured goodwill messages and testimonies from retired and serving staff, who reflected on the department’s progress and the value of teamwork in public service. Gifts were presented to staff members by the Deputy Mayor as a mark of appreciation for their contributions to the growth of the local government.Other dignitaries at the event included the Supervisory Councillor for Security, unit heads, and senior officers of the department, both serving and retired.The celebration ended on a note of unity and renewed commitment, as staff expressed optimism for a more productive and impactful 2026 in the delivery of education and social development services in Awka South.
