Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through the recruitment of more teachers and sustained investment in public schools to improve learning outcomes. The governor gave the assurance on Friday at the 50th anniversary celebration of Uga Boys Secondary School, Aguata Local Government Area, where he received his secondary education.Soludo, a pioneer student of the school, recalled serving as the Library Prefect and later the Senior Prefect before graduating in 1980, describing the institution as central to his personal and academic development. He noted that the school, formerly known as Uga Secondary School, was one of only four secondary schools in the area at the time and played a critical role in shaping many professionals across the state. The governor expressed appreciation to the school’s founders, teachers and host community for their sacrifices and long-standing commitment to education, singling out his former teachers for their dedication, competence and professionalism.According to him, his administration will continue to prioritise education by providing a conducive learning environment and revitalising public schools across the state.“Education remains a top priority for this administration. We are committed to recruiting more teachers and improving the quality of learning in our public schools, building on the legacy of institutions like Uga Boys Secondary School,” Soludo said.Earlier, the school’s principal, Mr Benjamin Igwema, commended the governor for his interventions in the education sector, noting that recent reconstruction works had significantly improved the school’s learning environment.Igwema also praised the state government’s free education policy and sponsorship of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees, saying the initiatives had boosted student enrolment and expanded access to education.
