The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr Don Onyenji, has commended the Traditional Rulers of Ihite town and Umuomaku ancient kingdom in Orumba South Local Government Area for promoting Igbo cultural values.Mr Onyenji gave the commendation when he received the monarchs on a courtesy visit to his office at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka, noting that values such as diligence, industriousness and respect for the law remain central to the state’s cultural identity.He stated that promoting cultural traditions would strengthen social order and reduce crime, adding that improvements in security and road infrastructure across the state have enhanced connectivity and economic activities.The commissioner also highlighted ongoing infrastructural developments, including road dualisation projects and efforts to restore commercial vibrancy at Onitsha Main Market, which he said would attract business activities across the region.He appreciated the royal fathers and residents of the state for their support of government initiatives and encouraged continued participation in programmes aimed at preserving cultural heritage and tourism development.Responding, the Traditional Ruler of Ihite town, His Royal Highness Igwe Timothy Okwudili Ifurunwa, expressed appreciation for what he described as improved peace, stability and transparency in the conduct of traditional leadership processes.He attributed enhanced security in the area to the state’s security initiative, noting that it had encouraged greater participation of indigenes in community activities and festive returns.The monarch further highlighted Ihite’s agricultural and cultural heritage, including cultivation of staple crops and traditional performances showcased during local market events.Also speaking, the Traditional Ruler of Umuomaku kingdom, His Royal Majesty Igwe Obikaenyi L. O. Ezenwa, commended the state government for road development in the community, stating that improved accessibility would boost economic growth.He described Umuomaku as agriculturally productive and culturally vibrant, noting that its produce and traditions remain central to local identity and commerce.
