The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has emphasised that early detection remains crucial in combating cancer, urging residents to adopt healthier lifestyles and prioritise routine screening.Mrs Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo Initiative, made the call in a statement issued on Wednesday to mark World Cancer Day, observed annually on February 4.She noted that cancer has increasingly affected households and communities, attributing its spread partly to unhealthy consumption habits and addictions, and stressed the need for individuals to reassess their lifestyle choices.According to her, the global observance seeks to promote cancer prevention, early detection and improved treatment, while mobilising collective action to reduce illness and death associated with the disease.Speaking on the theme for this year’s commemoration, United by Unique, Mrs Soludo described cancer as more than a medical condition, saying it is a deeply personal human experience that requires empathy, care and collective support.She urged individuals to prioritise routine screening, noting that early diagnosis significantly improves chances of treatment and survival.Mrs Soludo further encouraged residents, especially women and mothers, to place greater attention on their health and wellbeing, emphasising that good health underpins productivity and quality of life.She advocated a holistic approach to self-care encompassing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, adding that adopting healthy eating and lifestyle habits can help reduce preventable illnesses.
