The Anambra State Government has launched a joint operation with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), to combat the sale of adulterated petroleum products and tampered meters in petrol stations across the state.
The partnership was formalized during a meeting between the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Anthony Ifeanya, and IPMAN’s Enugu Depot unit, led by Chairman Chinedu Anyaso.
According to Commissioner Ifeanya, the government is committed to ensuring that petroleum products are sold to consumers in a fair and safe manner. “We will not tolerate any form of sharp practices in the petroleum sector,” he warned.
As part of the agreement, IPMAN has been directed to provide a list of all functional filling stations in the state to enable the government to build a comprehensive database. This database will facilitate the monitoring and tracking of petrol stations, making it easier to identify and penalize those engaging in malpractices.
The move is seen as a major step towards protecting consumers from the harmful effects of adulterated petroleum products and ensuring that they get value for their money.
IPMAN Chairman Chinedu Anyaso praised the government’s initiative, saying it would help to promote a level playing field in the petroleum sector. He also expressed optimism that the partnership would lead to a significant reduction in the sale of adulterated products and tampered meters in the state.
