Gov. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has commissioned the newly completed access road to the Chinụa Achebe International Airport, Umueri, officially naming it “Willie Obiano Boulevard” in honour of his predecessor.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the airport entrance, was marked by tributes to former Governor Willie Obiano for his contributions to the state’s progress during his eight-year tenure. Governor Soludo said the decision to name the road after him was a deliberate step toward recognizing and celebrating leaders who have served Anambra with distinction.
According to Governor Soludo, his administration is committed to building a legacy of unity and inclusiveness, with a guiding philosophy of “one state, one people, one agenda.” He emphasized that infrastructure projects across the state, including in the Northern Senatorial Zone, are designed to ensure no community is left behind. He noted the construction of four new general hospitals as part of ongoing developments in the region.
Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma, highlighted the importance of giving the state’s gateway a modern and impressive look, stressing the strategic value of the road to the airport.
Traditional Ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, lauded the Governor’s efforts and appealed for the construction of an additional access road to the airport through Umueri to further improve connectivity.
The event was graced by key political figures and traditional leaders, including the member representing Anambra East, Mr. Peter Aniekwe; his Oyi counterpart, Mr. Innocent Ojike; Mayor of Oyi LGA, Barr. Ikechukwu Nweke; Mayor of Anambra East, Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze; Igwe Charles Anikweze of Awkuzu; and Igwe Michael Idigo of Aguleri.
