Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has called on traditional rulers across the South East to intensify efforts toward promoting unity and restoring the values that once defined the region.
The Governor made the appeal during the South East Traditional Rulers Council Delegates Meeting held at the International Convention Centre, Awka, where he addressed the monarchs as critical stakeholders in the cultural and moral fabric of Igbo society.
Governor Soludo expressed deep concern over the growing disunity and erosion of core values in the region, noting that the Igbo land of his childhood had significantly changed. He emphasized the need to reclaim the essence of the region by reviving morals such as hard work, enterprise, and community spirit.
“As custodians of our traditions and culture, you have a pivotal role to play in rebuilding the spirit of unity among our people,” the Governor said. “What a society celebrates is what it becomes, and we must ensure that we celebrate values that uplift our people.”
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, Dr. E.C. Okeke, commended Governor Soludo’s performance across various sectors in Anambra State and urged governors in the South East to work together for the collective development of the region.
The meeting also had in attendance the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka; former Chairman, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe; and the Commissioner for Local Government, Town Union and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, among other dignitaries.
The gathering underscored a renewed call for unity, collaboration, and cultural rejuvenation among the traditional leadership in the region.
