The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has fulfilled his Easter pledge to support inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Awka Custodial Centre, with interventions aimed at improving welfare and rehabilitation.Represented by his wife, Mrs. Amara Ezeokenwa, and accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Chief Ugochukwu Obiefuna, the APGA chairman delivered financial support to the facility to address operational challenges. The intervention focused on repairing vehicles used for transporting inmates to court, a critical need identified during his earlier Easter visit.
Members of the delegation also provided additional support to ensure a more comprehensive restoration of the vehicles, aimed at improving logistics and facilitating smoother judicial processes. In a further show of commitment to rehabilitation, Ezeokenwa sponsored the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) fees for 33 inmates, underscoring his belief in education as a pathway to reintegration and personal transformation. The APGA chairman had earlier marked the Easter celebration with inmates at the facility, where he donated food items, detergents, and other essentials. He emphasized the role of correctional centres as institutions for reform and second chances, beyond mere custody.Officials and inmates of the centre expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful, while noting that it reflects a model of leadership that prioritizes human dignity and social responsibility.
