The Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has called on women across the state to champion the protection of vulnerable persons, including persons living with disabilities, while promoting equality and inclusion in their communities.Onyekesi made the call on June 26 when she received members of various women’s organisations, including Divine Ladies and Nonyelu Solution, Ihiala Chapter, led by Mrs. Nkechi Nnaemeka, during a solidarity visit to her office in Awka.She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to advancing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of building a more inclusive and compassionate society, noting that efforts remain focused on improving the welfare of women, children, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups across the state.
The commissioner urged the visiting organisations to collaborate with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative to tackle social challenges affecting vulnerable members of society.According to her, such partnerships would strengthen the ministry’s programmes and promote sustainable social development across Anambra.Speaking on behalf of the visiting groups, representatives, including a delegation from the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), commended the commissioner for her warm reception and expressed confidence in her leadership.They also prayed for wisdom and strength as she continues to champion initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of orphans, vulnerable children, and other disadvantaged persons in the state.
